Mardi Gras Magic at Sesame Place Philadelphia: A Must-Visit for Families!

March 1, 2025 3 min read No Comments

Mardi Gras at Sesame Place Philadelphia is a celebration like no other! ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š We visited last weekend as a family and had an absolute blast. From colorful parades to delicious New Orleans-inspired treats, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Meet Your Favorite Sesame Street Friends in Their Mardi Gras Best!

One of the highlights of our visit was seeing Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby Cadabby, and friends dressed in their festive Mardi Gras outfits! ๐ŸŽญ They were ready to party, and we had so much fun snapping pictures and dancing along with them. If you have little ones who love character meet-and-greets, don’t miss this limited-time event! We made sure to enter the park right at opening and waited no longer than 5 minutes per character (though most had no line whatsoever). Mardi Gras is the perfect time to visit your furry favorites on Sesame Street!

Between character meet and greets, we had the opportunity to strut our stuff down Sesame Street while tapping our toes to the Mummers Band! This award-winning Quaker City String Band performs music in full Mardi Gras costume that’ll leave you feeling like you’re down in the Big Easy. It made our stroll down the main drag such a delight!

A Show You Canโ€™t Miss: Elmo: The Musical LIVE!

Sesame Place debuted a brand-new show, Elmo: The Musical LIVE!, and it was absolutely adorable! ๐ŸŽถ Without giving too much away, expect imagination, math, and music as Detective Elmo helps Cookie Monster find his favorite cookie that has gone missing. Elmo, Cookie, and the cutest pair of chickens take the stage in a fun-filled, interactive performance that had our sweet Gem* clapping and dancing the whole time. Itโ€™s a must-see for any Elmo fan!

Baby’s First Playground Adventure!

This trip was extra special for us because our son Gem is now crawling and pulling up everywhere, which means the Sesame Place’s 123 Playground area was well-loved by our curious little boy! ๐Ÿคฉ He had an absolute blast:

  • Spinning Xs and Os for a round of tic-tac-toe โ™ก
  • Going down the slide for the first time (his little smile said it all!) ๐Ÿ˜
  • Playing with all the musical equipment ๐Ÿฅ

It was so fun watching him explore and take in all the sights, sounds, and texturesโ€”this stage of babyhood is magical… and exhausting! โœจ

Tasty Treats & Festive Bites

Whatโ€™s Mardi Gras without delicious food? Sesame Place brought the flavors of New Orleans to select food carts with a special Mardi Gras menu. Some of the tasty options:

  • King Cake โ€“ Sweet, colorful, and festive! ๐Ÿ‘‘
  • Beignets โ€“ Warm, sugary, and oh-so-delicious. ๐Ÿฉ
  • Spicy Jambalayaโ€“ Packed with flavor and the perfect cozy dish for a chilly day! ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ
  • And much more!

Plan Your Mardi Gras Visit to Sesame Place!

Mardi Gras at Sesame Place is a limited-time event, so if youโ€™re thinking about going, donโ€™t wait too long! Whether you go for the characters, the entertainment, or the food, itโ€™s a celebration your family (and your students!) will love.
