If you’ve ever tried interactive notebooks (INBs for short) or foldable activities in your classroom, you already know the struggle. They can be amazing tools for student engagement and retention—but only if they’re designed well! Too often, foldables become time-consuming, confusing, or just another “Pinterest pretty” project that doesn’t survive past October.
That’s exactly why I started creating my own line of interactive math notebook activities for teachers, grades K–6. And let me tell you: there’s a secret sauce that makes my notebook resources different.
Today, I’m pulling back the curtain to share what other foldable activities get wrong—and how my INBs fix it!
❌ What Other Interactive Notebook Foldables Get Wrong
- Too much prep time
If you’ve ever spent your entire prep cutting dotted lines, you know what I mean. Some of these foldable activities are doing too much. And if you let students help prep? HA! Teachers don’t have time to babysit scissors and glue sticks. - Complicated directions
Students get frustrated when a foldable requires 10 steps just to get started. By the time everyone is ready, class is nearly done and the activity has lost its spark. - Style over substance
Some resources look adorable but lack alignment to actual academic standards. A foldable activity should support content mastery, not just classroom décor. - Not built to last
Thin templates and overly complex folds often fall apart in student notebooks. By November, half the class has abandoned them, leaving you with nothing to reflect on.
✅ The Secret Sauce in My Math Interactive Notebooks
So, what makes my INBs different? It all comes down to simplicity, alignment, and teacher-friendliness.
- Cut on the dotted lines, fold on the solid ones.
That’s it, every single time. My design rule keeps prep time to a minimum and makes directions crystal clear for students. Teachers love that they can say, “Cut, fold, paste” and students know exactly what to do. - Standards-aligned from start to finish.
Each INB activity is built on the Common Core State Standards for Math (K–6). That means every foldable connects to real learning objectives, not just “busy work.” - Journaling prompts built in.
My interactive notebooks don’t just stop at cut-and-paste. Each domain bundle includes reflection prompts to deepen student thinking and support written expression alongside math skills. It’s built-in test prep all year long! - Engaging, multisensory learning.
Interactive notebooks bring together visuals, hands-on manipulatives, and written work. This multisensory approach keeps students engaged and helps information stick, both literally and mentally! - Designed for classroom reality.
I’m a teacher, too. I know all about copier jams, unexpected fire drills, and students with diverse learning needs. My notebooks are built to be easy to implement, even on the toughest days.
📝 Why Teachers Love Them
Here’s what teachers often say when they switch to my interactive notebook resources:

- “My students actually reference their notebooks months later!”
- “Prep is quick and painless.”
- “The clear cut and fold lines make it easy for even my youngest learners.”
Teachers want resources that are effective, practical, and worth the time investment. That’s why so many have found success with my interactive notebooks!
