As a passionate traveler and frequent cruiser, I only recently stumbled upon this charming tradition when doing research for my honeymoon cruise last year with Disney. I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
What Are Cruising Ducks?
Cruising Ducks are adorable rubber ducks that you can decorate and leave around your cruise ship for others to find. It’s a fantastic way to spread a little joy, surprise fellow passengers, and make your cruise even more memorable. These little ducks are like tiny ambassadors of happiness! Big or small, we love them all.
How To Get Involved
Getting started with Cruising Ducks is super easy! You can find rubber ducks at various retailers, including Oriental Trading, Amazon, and Five Below. Personally, I enjoyed shopping for unique ducks on Amazon โ they have quite the selection! Once you have your ducks, it’s time to get creative.
Cruising Duck Tag Ideas
Part of the fun is attaching a tag to your duck, which often includes some basic information and a friendly message or note to whoever finds it. At the bare minimum, it’s important to let folks know they have the option to keep or rehide the duck in public spaces only. Ducks do not go in pools or stores. You can also include a hashtag to follow your duck’s adventures! We included these cute 25th-anniversary tags for our Silver Sailing on the Disney Dream.
Here are a few tag ideas:
- “I’m here to brighten your day. ๐ฆ Keep or hide, you decide!”

Our Cruising Duck Experience
During our Disney honeymoon cruise, my husband and I had a blast hiding ducks all over the ship. I think he enjoyed it way more than I anticipated. We placed them in common areas like elevators, on top of decorative frames, and even in the photo gallery. We’d hide and run most of the time, but the last night, we stuck around to see who’d find our friends. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on people’s faces when they discovered our little duck surprises!
We also found several ducks hidden by fellow passengers, which added an extra layer of excitement to our journey. After a long day of sightseeing, we’d head to dinner and take a late night stroll around the ship. Matt had an eye for them! One night, I think he found something like 5 ducks in an hour’s time.
Wifi was limited, but when we had access, it was fun to snap a picture of our newfound friends and post them to social media. The sense of community and shared joy that Cruising Ducks bring is something truly magical.
