All About Crystal Mencia
The daughter of immigrants, Crystal Mencia is a first-generation American teacher from New Jersey with over 10 years of experience in education. She graduated with a Bachelor of the Arts in Linguistics from Rutgers University and immediately went into pursuing her Master of Education degree from her alma mater’s Graduate School of Education. She is dually certified in Elementary Education (K-6) and Special Education (K-12).
Educational Background
In 2019, Crystal completed the New Jersey Expedited Certification for Educational Leadership (NJEXCEL) through the Foundation for Educational Administration. Though she holds a supervisory and administrative certificate, Ms. Mencia feels called to remain in the classroom at the moment, working hands-on with students, and designing curriculum when she isn’t teaching. Math is her jam and interactive notebooks are a favorite way to deliver instruction.
Professional Background
Over the course of her professional career, Crystal has teaching experience in both the general and special education settings. She has serviced students from kindergarten through eighth grade in both New Jersey and Delaware. Her favorite years spent teaching were as a departmentalized fifth-grade math teacher. Currently, she works in a middle school setting teaching students with specific learning and language needs.
Crystal is very grateful to have a loving family, supportive friends, and loyal pets. She rarely speaks about any of them on public forums, but it is important to her they know how much of an influence they have had on the kind of educator she is today. Ms. Mencia feels blessed and most fortunate to get to wake up each and every day doing what she loves most: teaching all the things and learning as much!
