Looking to make the most of your time reading scripture? The following are my must have supplies for Bible study. I go into detail on why they help and where to find them, affiliate links included. You can read the full disclosure and other boring legal stuff under my ABOUT section of this page.
Bible Study Must Haves
- I am obsessed with my Creative Bible! It’s like an adult coloring book of beautiful images and Bible scripture. PRO TIP: Be sure not to use markers, though! The pages are rather thin and easily bleed through, typical for Bibles. I just love the Tiffany blue soft leather hardcover and detailed page edges. Swoon. As far as I know, it comes in both KJV and NLT versions.
- Bible pages are frail. We know this. Use your standard felt tip highlighter and you’re bound to wreck a few pages. Gel highlighters are the solution! They are vibrant, acid-free, and, as the name suggests, have a gel stick rather than a felt tip. The gel doesn’t bleed through or dry out like typical highlighters.
- Book tabs make it so much easier to thumb through my Bible for specific scripture readings. The ones I purchased years ago appear to be discontinued or found on eBay. They are bright, easy to apply, and made of laminated cardstock for durability.
- Colored pencils, pens, and markers really help me organize my thoughts and identify scripture themes when note taking. I love the Frixion brand because they’re erasable and leave no ghost writing behind. The colors are a little dull compared to my Inkjoys, but they get the job done. Bonus: I can color those pretty scripture images without ruining my Bible pages!
More Bible Study Supplies
- Study guides keep me focused in reading through scripture. The Daily Grace Co. have some of the most beautiful and thought out guides for different books, themes, and people of the Bible. They throw sales all the time! I bought the entire collection at half off this past summer and frequently refer back to them. There’s background information (like historical significance) and journaling questions (with space to answer) that encourage mediation on the Word. You can also find free guides and such online, but it’ll take a Google search or two to find what you’re looking for.
- If you don’t use a guided workbook like the ones listed above, I recommend keeping a journal devoted just to your Bible study notes. Any ol’ notebook will do, but you want to be consistent! I personally get intimidated by a blank sheet of paper and need a bit of structure to my journal. My devotional time follows the S.O.A.P. method (scripture, observations, applications, prayers) so finding a notebook divided up like that helped me organize my thoughts on paper. This also made it easier to refer back to past readings and notes for reflection and growth.
