I want you to think of that same note you write day after day, week after week. For me, it’s the list of student names for my various small groups. It’s also the copier instructions I give my instructional assistant as she runs off the following week’s printables. Ever wish there was a way to copy that note without the hand cramps? Well, there is! Use a sticky note printing template. Seriously, printing on Post Its has never been easier!
First, you’ll want a full sheet sticky note printing template. Lucky for you, I’ve already created multiple options so you can just download and pick the one that suits your needs best! Small sticky notes are about 2″ x 1.5″ in size. Larger squares measure 3″ x 3″.
Next, you’re going to print the template and stick your notes to the printable areas as indicated by the guidelines. To prevent any printer jams, make sure your sticky note adhesive is placed at the top of your template.
Once your template is loaded, it’s time to feed your printer. This is probably the trickiest step. Every printer is different! You may need to troubleshoot a bit here. For example, my classroom printer requires me to load the template page face down, with the blank side up. My home printer, however, has me do the opposite: I load my template face up and upside down so that everything prints the right way.
PRO TIP: If I am printing the same message over and over, I will load my template with a stack of 3-4 sticky notes. Once I print, I will peel the first layer of notes away and return the template to the printing tray for a second, third, and fourth run. This only works with those sticky note pads that have the adhesive at the top of the pad; those alternating pads meant for pop-up feeders won’t work with this hack!
After figuring out the print settings, you’ll create your sticky note message, making sure to stay within your print guidelines. With my free template, you’d change the table border settings to NO FILL, NO LINES. That would ensure you don’t end up with random lines on your notes for minor misalignments. The only thing left to do after that is print and enjoy!
